Q: Who is CAAHEP?
A: The Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) is the largest programmatic/specialized accreditor in the health sciences field. CAAHEP accredits over 2,000 programs in health science disciplines.
Q: What is the relationship between the CoA PSG and CAAHEP?
A: The Committee on Accreditation for Polysomnographic Technologist Education is one of the health science professions in the CAAHEP system. Each profession has a Committee on Accreditation (CoA) similar to the CoA PSG, that works with CAAHEP to develop educational Standards and review educational programs in the respective professions. Much of the discipline-specific review is completed at the CoA PSG level, while CAAHEP provides the framework for the review process and assures due process has been followed at the CoA PSG level.
Q: How do sponsoring organizations fit in?
A: Each sponsoring organization has representatives to serve on the CoA PSG, and one representative from the CoA PSG to serve as its CAAHEP Commissioner. Representatives provide expertise in polysomnography and related fields, and participate in developing educational standards in polysomnography that are in substantial compliance with the Standards and Guidelines.
Q: Where can I get more information about CAAHEP?
A: Visit CAAHEP’s website for information about CAAHEP, including a complete list of CAAHEP member organizations and commissioners, and the Board of Directors.
